I was recently tagged on Facebook to start posting images of movies that helped shape me, or had some sort of influence on me. I thought I would go into more detail here about my first image.
The first image I posted was the same one here...a picture of Robert Shaw, Roy Scheider, and Richard Dreyfuss in my favorite film, Jaws.
My mother loves Cape Cod and Jaws was filmed not too far from the Cape on Martha's Vineyard. Her love for the cape and the movie got me hooked on Jaws as a kid. In 2014, I got to visit Martha's Vineyard and check out some of the locations of where the movie was shot...that was surreal...walking the same path as Chief Brody as he went to craft his "no swimming" signs.
I remember watching the movie all the time on a VHS recording of when it aired on WGN...had to be from the late 80s or early 90s...always having to fix the tracking issues because of overuse.
Jaws is a film that has withstood the test of time. It is still referenced everywhere, especially the music...brilliantly conducted by composer John Williams (the man behind the music of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T., and Harry Potter).
Now I know this website is for wedding videography mostly, but Jaws helped shape my path to video and television. I don't know if I ever would have really gotten into movies had it not been for this movie. It grabbed a hold of me and has not let go. My love for moves turned into a passion to hold a camera and tell a story. I haven't directed any films really, nothing of note...but I have told many stories I am proud of. Steven Spielberg and his master performance behind the cameras of Jaws helped shape my life in many ways. I also can't tell you how many times I have quoted that movie...hell, I have 2 pets named Hooper and Quint.
This blog could be much longer, hence the title...but I will end it here and hope that whomever reads this, either
watches Jaws for the first time or revisits Amity Island once more...
